Aspiration Guides

Sticky Fingers, get Rich one Swipe at a Time

The rewards from week 3 of the Blast from the Past Event introduces the new Sticky Fingers aspiration, giving any Sims the chance to try their hand at stealing. Whether your Sim is looking to borrow a few expensive items or fully embrace a life of crime, this aspiration sets them on a path of becoming a seasoned thief.

The Sticky Fingers aspiration is straightforward with one single objective: steal as many items as you can! Sort of… Either way, in this article we’ll share the best tips and tricks to help your Sim successfully steal without getting caught. Hands off approach? Never heard of it.

Fun Fact! Even Sims with the Good trait can take this aspiration, while normally this trait conflicts with the Kleptomaniac trait.

Tips to Complete the Sticky Fingers Aspiration

The Sticky Fingers aspiration only has one milestone – also called Sticky Fingers – with one goal only: Swipe Items Worth §250.000. While this goal is fairly easy to complete, swiping items can be a bit finicky. Let’s go over some details to make your thiefing experience a little bit less of a struggle.

  • Don’t Combine with the Kleptomaniac Trait
While it makes sense to think about it, but don’t pick the Kleptomaniac trait. Sims with the Sticky Fingers aspiration will unlock a reward trait very similar to this. As you start with just three personality traits, I’d recommend you spend these slots for something else.
  • Avoid Witnesses while Swiping
You can only swipe items away from your home lot. This means there will be other Sims around. Try to pick an item in a room without any Sims present.
  • Unlock the Shameless Reward Trait
Unlock this trait for 2.000 Satisfaction Points. These Sims don’t get embarrassed if they get caught stealing.
  • Level up the Charisma Skill
Sims with a higher Charisma are less likely to be preceived as a bad person. This helps them be more successful during their mischievous endeavours.
  • Level up the Mischief Skill
Swiping items with a higher Mischief skill can give you better results, which brings me to the following…
Be discreet about your… hobbies… Other Sims might not like what you’re doing if the catch you in the act!

How to Swipe Items in the Sims 4

To swipe an item, simply click on it and use the Attempt to Swipe interaction. Your Sim will only have this ability when they either have the Kleptomaniac trait or the Sticky Fingers aspirations. What items your Sim is able to swipe depends on a couple of factors, some of which are pretty unclear. I could go on a whole rant about the hidden tags on items – which tells the game what to do with them – but I’m afraid I’d bore you to death. Luckily our crewmember Dragonfluffy jumped into the game files to gather some intel for us.

Higher Mischief, More Value

  • Beginner Items
Sims can swipe these items as long as they cost less than §300. This counts for Sims with Mischief skill levels 1-4.
  • Intermediate Items
Sims with Mischief skill levels 5-7 can swipe items worth between §300 and §1500.
  • High Value Items
Swipe items worth more than §1500 as soon as you hit Mischief skill level 8+.

Current Bug..? As I’m writing this guide, I noticed there seems to be a bug with this aspiration. While there are usually prerequisites for stealing items, currently I’m not experiencing any of the restrictions. My Sim could swipe the most valuable target right away. Not that I mind cashing in 8k in one go, but it seems a bit excessive…

What can I steal?

So we established that as your Sim improves their Mischief skill, they become capable of stealing more valuable items. But what sort of items are we talking about exactly? Unfortunately that’s the finicky part about swiping stuff in The Sims 4. We found the categories of items that classify as stealable objects.

  • Art & Decoration
This category is one of the trickier categories as sometimes you expect something to count as art, while it doesnt and vice versa. Framed paintings, statues and decorative vases usually are eligible targets. With this category I’d say if a Sim can use the View interaction, it’s probably stealable.
  • Books
Any readable books are swipable, but decorative books and shelves aren’t.
  • Chairs & Couches
Most seats are eligible targets, such as bar stools, dining chairs, love seats and sofas.
  • Collectibles
Most collectible items can be swiped, think of postcards, frogs, MySims throphies etc. This also includes the plaque you unlock for completing a collection.
  • Electronics
Most computers, video game consoles, tv’s and stereos can be stolen.
  • Infant Cribs
Infants are the only lifestage to get their beds taken away from them… How sad!
  • Instruments
Guitars, violins or even a grand piano go straight into your Sim’s pockets.
  • Kitchen Appliances
Some smaller kitchen appliances are eligible targets, but bigger ones – such as refrigerators – are not.
  • Lights
Candles, table lights and floor lamps are up for the taking, but mounted lamps such as wall or ceiling lamps are not.
  • Pet Toys
Any toys for your pets from The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs or The Sims 4 Horse Ranch.
  • Prepared Food
Any food items that are ready to consume can be stolen by your Sim. No ma’am, this was myyyy coffee-to-go.

  • Miscellaneous
Here and there we’ve found some other items that are swipeable, such as picnic baskets, vaccuums and even horse manure…

Completion Reward

Your Sim will unlock the Enhanced Kleptomaniac reward trait, giving them a smaller radius in which they get caught stealing by other Sims. This radius is reduced by 20%.
