Alice’s Sorrow, Helping a Weeping Mother with Grief

Near the Guardian Tree of Mourningvale, Simmers encounter the Ghost Sim Alice, the Weeping Mother. Greatly inspired by the La Llorona legend, she’s a ghostly figure eternally searching for her children after her own tragic death by drowning. Your Sim can help Alice uncover the fate of her children as you find clues throughout Ravenwood, the new town introduced with The Sims 4 Life & Death. Reveal the truth and help Alice finally find peace.

How to Start the Alice’s Sorrow Quest?

To find Alice, you must first travel to any lot in the Mourningvale neighborhood of Ravenwood. Alice is a blue-colored Ghost Sim, roaming near the Guardian Tree; it’s a unique and mysterious looking tree so it’s easy to spot between all the gloomy trees of Mourningvale. If you can’t find Alice near the tree, you can summon her by interacting with the Guardian Tree.

After the initial greeting your Sim will have the interaction to Ask about Alice’s Sorrow. This will give a pop-up, asking your Sim to find out what happened to her children. Accept the quest and it will appear in the Career tab of your Sim. Here you can also check on the progress of your quest, as well as read a clue for your current task by hovering over it with your cursor.

Finding Alice’s Children

The first three children of Alice are rather easy to find – and deal with. The fourth one is a bit more of a challenge, but we’ll get to that in a minute. We’ve marked the important landmarks for this questline on the map of Ravenwood below. Let’s keep these in mind and find out what happened to Deimos, Freddy, Ann & Edith.

Deimos

Your first task will be to find Deimos. His sarcophagus can be found in any Crypt of Eternity. There are crypt entrances in each of the Ravenwood neighborhoods, but also on Cemetery lots. Each entrance leads to the same catacombs, so it doesn’t matter which one you use. Your Sim will enter a Rabbit Hole and disappear from sight.

Upon entering you’ll receive a few pop-ups leading your Sim through their journey in the crypts. Apparently Deimos’ grave isn’t too hard to find as the second pop-up will be to read the epitaph on their sarcophagus, whereas the following pop-up will tell you a bit about who Deimos was: a skeptical intellect who died by Cowplant… oh, the irony.

Freddy

The second child of Alice is called Freddy. He’s a friendly Specter who roams the playgrounds of the Crow’s Crossing neighborhood. Here you’ll find multiple Specters flying about, look for the one with a bow tie and mustache; this is Freddy!

We’ve found that Freddy is not always wearing his attire. If you can’t find him, hover your cursor over the Specters, this will show their name. He also has more interactions than other Specters near him: the Ravenwood Rumors and Ask about Alice’s Sorrow interactions. Use the latter to complete your task.

Ann

Then there’s Ann. She lived a normal life as a beloved teacher, mother and wife before dying a natural death. Her final resting place is rather peaceful, but it can be tricky to spot. There are two ways to find the island with her gravestone.

  • Travel to The Final Draught bar and when looking at the front of the bar, keep moving your camera to the right. You’ll pass castle ruins, crypts and a Tarot Tome Shrine. Once you hit the riverbed look for a small island with more ruins and a singular grave.
  • Look directly at the Ancestor sculpture near the river. Then keep moving your camera to the left until you spot the island.

Once here, read the epitaph of Ann’s gravestone to complete the task.

Edith

The last born child of Alice is called Edith. She’s a Ghost Child who resides near the Well of Longing & Regret in the Crow’s Crossing neighborhood. Sims will fear the mere presence of the child, giving them a Scared Moodlet once they get near the Child. Edith is in a constant rage, making it hard to speak with her.

Tip! You can use the Well of Longing & Regret to Wish for Courage to Face Edith. If granted, your Sim will get a Reward Trait Courage of Edith, making it easier to communicate with Edith successfully.

Use the Attempt to Communicate interaction to try and start a conversation. If she declines your attempt, your Sim will run away and cover in fear. This will give them an extra Scared Moodlet for a little while. However, if she accepts, your Sim opens up more social interactions with Edith. Use the Ask about Alice’s Sorrow interaction to complete your task.

Edith the angry Ghost Child.
Edith presumably died by falling in the Well of Longing & Regret, where she drowned. Her spirit is now bound to the very place that killed her;
I’d be upset too!

Return to Alice

Now that you’ve learned of the fate of all four of Alice’s children, return to her in Mourningvale. Use the Report Findings interaction to tell her what became of her children. Alice will now finally be at peace and your questline is completed. Your Sim will also be Good Friends status with Alice.

Euphoric Presence

After telling Alice what happened to her children, you can see her mood physically lift. She goes from the sad blue to another color, representing a more positive mood. When near Alice, your Sim will receive a +2 positive Moodlet equal to Alice’s current mood.

Guardian Tree Interactions

Your Sim can now Scavenge through the Guardian Tree, giving them a few items of varying rarities. You can find the items in your Sim’s personal inventory.

Then there’s the Refill Needs interaction which will do exactly that: refill all your Sim’s Needs. Personally, I think this is the strongest reward of them all, at least for now… In the quest rewards it is stated it should only work on Ghost Sims, but currently it works on regular Sims too. We think this will be patched out later on, so enjoy it while it lasts!
