Charm Anyone with the Charisma Skill
Sims naturally pick up the Charisma skill while conversing with others, still it’s worth it to put in more energy into leveling up. Why? Well, because it’s the skill used for the highest number of careers, gigs and aspirations of the Sims 4. In this guide, we’ll teach you all about it, so you’ll be rolling a Natural 20 for your Charisma skill in no time.
Prepare to Level Up
When you decide to increase your Sims’ Charisma, there are a few useful things you can do beforehand.
- Purchase a Mirror
While your Sim can level up their Charisma by simply talking to others, it might come in handy to practice the skill in a mirror instead. - Complete the Social Butterfly Aspiration as a Child
This will increase the speed in which you level up social skills – such as Charisma – when you’re older. - Unlock the Mediator Trait with The Sims 4 Parenthood
Before your Teen grows up into a Young-Adult, raise their Conflict Resolution Character Value into range to gain the positive Mediator trait. - Purchase the Great Kisser Bonus Trait
You’ll need 3.000 Satisfaction Points, but it will be well worth it! Each kiss your Sim gives increases their Charisma skill quite a bit. Especially great for Romantic Sims. Which brings me to the following…
Pick the Right Traits
It’s important to note that any Sim can increase their Charisma skill, but some might have an easier time doing so as the skill relies heavily on social interactions. Picking the right traits will help your Sim become the most charming of all. Here are our top suggestions.
![]() | Cheerful Sims in a positive mood have an easier time interacting with other Sims. |
![]() | Outgoing As social interactions are the lifeline of Outgoing Sims, why not practice Charisma while you’re at it? |
![]() | Romantic This one is optional, but a very good choice if you unlocked the Great Kisser bonus trait with Satisfaction Points. |

How to Increase your Charisma Skill
There are multiple ways to level up the Charisma skill in The Sims 4. Certain social interactions will increase your progress as well as practicing in a mirror & reading Charisma books. You could also study the subject in college if you own the Discover University expansion pack.
Ideal Mood! If you’re planning to focus on the Charisma skill, make sure to activate the Confident mood for your Sim. This will boost the skill gain tremendously.
Talk that Talk
While not all social interactions with other Sims will increase your Charisma skill, a handful of them do. The list of Charisma skill unlocks below will show you exactly what interaction increases the skill and which ones will not. Either way it is time to go out, meet new Sims & start talking. A lot.
If you prefer your own company – or simply just don’t have the time to go out – you can always start talking to yourself. Your Sim will be able to practice their speech in the mirror right from the start.

Reading Books to Level Up
The simplest – yet most boring – way to increase the Charisma skill would be to read books about it. You can purchase these books directly from a bookcase or computer. The books will show up in the inventory of the bookcase and you can access them by clicking the ‘Read…’ interaction.
The first book increases the Charisma skill until level 3, the second book works for level 4-6 and the third – and last – book will work starting at level 7. If your Sim gets bored by reading a certain skill book it means the book is too low level for them, so keep an eye on your Moodlets!
Pick Up Charisma during Class
In their teen years, Sims can pick up Charisma during school with The Sims 4 High School Years. The Business and Foreign Language classes both level up the skill and are given once per week.
With The Sims 4 Discover University, your Sim has the opportunity to select a field of study that enhances their Charisma skill, and fortunately, there is a wide range of options available. If you wish to boost your Sims’s Charisma skill, you can choose any of the following fields of study:
- Art History
- Communications
- Drama
- Economics
- History
- Language & Literature
- Psychology
You can also choose Charisma as an Elective Class if you enroll in any other study. Furthermore you can sit in on a Charisma class using your phone – under the Business tab – or by visiting any of the educational buildings in Britechester between 9AM and 9PM. Each class you attend costs §250.

Use Cheats to Max Out Charisma
Of course it’s not the most challenging method to level up your Charisma, but we wanted to mention it either way: Cheats. Sometimes it’s just really convenient to be able to max out the skill instantly. First, open up your Cheat Console and enter the cheat

Social Network & Simstagram
There are quite some social media platforms in The Sims 4. While some have a more distinct goal – such as Trendi or Plopsy – others are much more alike. Sims can have multiple accounts, but it might be good to note that the Social Network unlocked with Charisma shares its follower amount with the Simstagram platform. That said, only interacting with the ‘Social Network’ specifically increases the Charisma skill.
Rewards for Reaching Level 10
If it’s the first time a Sim maximizes the Charisma skill in your current save file, reaching level 10 will unlock the Smooth Talker achievement. | ![]() |
